From a recording app to hospital documentation
Sacra traces Abridge’s launch to 2018, when its iOS app used natural-language processing to record medical appointments and deliver transcripts to patients and doctors. During COVID, the company added video and dial-in capabilities for virtual visits and began selling into hospitals.
The research describes the later product as an electronic-health-record-integrated scribe that uses large language models to convert unstructured conversations into structured clinical notes. It identifies partnerships with Epic in August 2023 and athenahealth in February 2025 as part of Abridge’s expansion into health-system networks.
The May 2025 ARR estimates
According to Sacra, Abridge expanded from roughly 8,000 to more than 60,000 clinicians across over 100 health systems in about 18 months. Sacra estimated its ARR at $100 million in May 2025, compared with approximately $60 million in 2024.
The same report estimated Ambience at $30 million ARR in May 2025, up from $19 million in 2024. These are third-party recurring-revenue estimates, not audited fiscal-year revenue, cash collections, or net profit. Each amount retains the period specified by the research.
Ambience’s July financing announcement
Ambience’s July 29, 2025 company announcement reported a $243 million Series C, co-led by Oak HC/FT and Andreessen Horowitz. It said the funds would support expansion of its documentation, coding, and clinical-workflow platform across health systems.
The announcement describes a platform covering ambulatory, emergency, and inpatient settings and more than 100 specialties. It names Cleveland Clinic, UCSF Health, Houston Methodist, and Memorial Hermann among its users. The capital raised in this round is separate from the ARR estimated in Sacra’s research.
