Leaving a product role without a clear plan

Adithyan Ilangovan studied video engineering, built video infrastructure at several startups, and later led product at Paramount Studios. He told Indie Hackers that he wanted to start a business and was unhappy with the corporate grind. After ChatGPT launched, he quit his job without a specific plan.

His first technical product did not become a good business. Ilangovan said he struggled for the first six months after leaving. He then changed direction toward AI Podcasting, a service that takes over the work podcasters face after recording: editing, audio, show notes, social content, publishing, distribution, and promotion.

Manual delivery came before automation

The team did not begin by building a fully automated product. Ilangovan said they first performed the post-recording work manually for roughly two to three months. Doing the work exposed which parts of the customer workflow were repetitive and suitable for automation.

He said AI and other tools eventually automated about 80% of the workflow, then added, “So that is basically our margin.” The interview does not define the accounting basis, calculation, or cost inputs behind “margin,” so the statement cannot be independently classified as gross or net margin. The service continued to combine automation with human delivery and customer relationships.

A recurring service, not pure SaaS

In the interview, Ilangovan described typical pricing of $2,500 to $3,000 per month for four episodes, with additional work billed separately. He said revenue growth came from expanding workflows for existing customers.

The reported $14,500 MRR therefore refers to a monthly recurring service business with human-delivered post-production. It is not evidence of $14,500 in pure software subscriptions, audited profit, or a fully self-serve SaaS product.

The reported milestone and distribution

The Indie Hackers editorial interview published on March 3, 2026 relayed Ilangovan’s statement that the business had about $14,500 in MRR at that time. This B+C-level figure combines an editorial interview with a founder statement and was not independently audited.

Ilangovan said the business grew mainly through referrals and inbound from the creator network, without paid advertising at that point. His video-engineering education, startup infrastructure experience, Paramount product leadership, and relationships in the creator market are part of the story’s context.

Sources and product context

The public sources do not state that AI Podcasting uses APIToken. APIToken(https://apitoken.company/) is product context for small, measured API workflow tests using isolated project keys, status checks, usage records, and budget limits; it is not an endorsement or a claim about the company in this case.
